Hermanus in The Top 50 Most Loved Destinations in the World
Tourism Sentiment Index, TSI, has released Leading Places: The 100 Most Loved Destinations Around the World, and Hermanus features in the top 50 locations, as reported by Wesgro, the promotion agency for Cape Town and the Western Cape.
Knysna ranked in the top 20 at #19, Stellenbosch #23, Hermanus #41, and Cape Town #54 in the report by TSI, a travel data intelligence service created by destination marketing agency Destination Think.
TSI analysed more than 1.6 billion online conversations and content pieces publicly available about 21,330 global destinations, to identify the 100 ‘Most Loved Destinations’. Tourism Sentiment Index applies the power of artificial intelligence to the challenge of deciphering sentiment from human expression. This technology produces a metric for destination marketing known as the Tourism Sentiment Score.
With feedback from over 160 businesses from across the Province, Wesgro has confirmed a recent increase in local and domestic visitors. Passenger arrivals through Cape Town International Airport’s domestic terminal reached a high in December 2021, representing a 66% recovery rate when compared to the same period in 2019.
With the rankings proving the destination's global appeal, Western Cape was also very popular locally during the holiday season, with domestic visitor numbers tripling between November and December 2021.
International arrivals performed strongly in October as well, hitting a peak in November 2021 with a 41 percent recovery rate. Although foreign passenger arrivals in December were less than a third of what they were in the same month last year, they increased by 28 percent when compared to the previous year, according to Wesgro.
“This encouraging increase in tourism in Western Cape - and Hermanus’ position in the top 50 of most loved destinations in the world - reflects our experience at Benguela Cove Lagoon Wine Estate; there is new interest from both domestic and overseas buyers looking for luxury accommodation here, for a holiday or main family home. With the ending of Coronavirus-related travel restrictions, people are now actively seeking a place in the sun, by the coast, in a secure estate offering a better lifestyle and great leisure benefits,” says Penny Streeter.
Each of the oceanside luxury South African homes on the wildlife reserve at Benguela Cove feature stunning ocean views that appeal to everyone, she says. They are situated in the private vineyard estate, which produces award-winning wines that meet the environmental farming standards set by WOSA, Wines of South Africa.
The estate is increasingly recognised as an ideal location for home working and international commuting - and for those seeking a property investment in South Africa.
Water-skiing, boating, sailboats, yachts, and kayaking are among the water sports attractions in the lagoon, which is protected by a sandbar. Running, cycling, tennis, birdwatching, and fishing are also popular activities amongst homeowners. There are plots available for new build, all well distanced from each other to ensure privacy and lovely views of the coast. Most recently three new luxury homes became available, which are marketed by the developer from R11.9m.
Residents have access to a range of amenities in the separate hospitality area of the estate. Popular venues and activities include dining in the Moody Lagoon restaurant, visiting the tasting room and the children's entertainment area - as well as the pontoon wine tours. There is a year-round arts programme, which includes live music by local performers and prestige wine tasting events, with residents among the first to sample the estate's latest vintages.
