A wine pairing inspired by our surroundings

Inspired by the beauty of the Walker Bay region, our Benguela Cove Noble Late Harvest is characterised by heady notes of honey blossom, orange peel, pineapple and dried peaches. The lovely sweetness of the wine is balanced with a lingering finish while still remaining fresh and crisp on the palate.

What is the Benguela Cove Noble Late Harvest?

The Sauvignon Blanc grapes' exposure to the cool ocean mist helps to create conditions under which Botrytis Cinerea (Noble Rot) can flourish, producing grapes of concentrated intensity. Botrytis Cinerea is a fungus which forms on many various species of plants. The fungus attaches itself to the skins of grapes and drains the grapes of their water. This results in the sugar and acids within the grapes become more concentrated. This results in our delicious Noble Late Harvest.

The Benguela Cove terroir is ideal for the nourishment of Botrytis Cinerea and production of our Noble Late Harvest. Benguela Cove’s close proximity to the Atlantic Ocean results in a cooler median daytime temperature and in cool maritime winds that caress the vineyards at night. This favourable climate, use of cover crops and the direction in which the vines face aid in the slow ripening of these grapes. The slower ripening of the grapes and the warmer temperatures during the day result in the idyllic conditions for Botrytis Cinerea to flourish.
