Meet the Cloud9 Band

Johnny Krueger on drums and vocals brings good karma to the group. With more than 50 years of experience as a professional and semi-professional musician, one would never say that he’s already turned 70. Rock and roll clearly keeps you young and he intends to be the classic example. To think that he can claim four number one records in the 1960’s with the band he toured with in Europe. He also played for royalty. That being said, this Zambian born artist is a very humble bloke and great to talk to. Ask him about the time he toured Australia! On his return to South Africa, he worked as a mine safety manager, returning as a solid piece of gold for Cloud 9.

John Archer is on the lead guitar and vocals, a charming chap who followed his sweetheart to South Africa. In the 1960’s he was up to play any gig imaginable, especially in road bands touring the UK. He did the “suited” business career and got that T-shirt, but retiring in South Africa simply evoked that natural love for rock and roll again. Being a true “Yorkshire Man” and quite upfront, each song is also delivered with a short 30 second story about how it became cemented in music history.

Dolf Lowe is quite a character and the South African fella in the group with exceptional skill on the bass guitar. He has been playing professionally for most of his life but he is also a practicing attorney. Previously a Western Cape prosecutor, his band likes to take a stab at him, introducing him as the Prince of Darkness. But man can he play!

Making music is a way of life

What started out as ex pros getting together for a jam, gave birth to their second career in music. When these guys get going, the atmosphere is palpable, making years of experience seem effortless. So, if these blokes thought they had it then, their craft have certainly reached a new mature pinnacle.

So, 600 odd gigs later with more than 160 songs in their repertoire, their music will impress anyone who loves classics from the Rolling Stones, Beatles and Eric Clapton.

Their passion and love for music is infectious, but they also take it very serious with contemporary renditions that keep it fresh. The key success ingredient to their performance last time was the great comradery amongst them.  Their special relationship is sealed in the way they just flow into all those bankers that people love or expect to hear. They also take their cue from the audience and feeds off the crowd’s energy, so it’s up to you to make the best of it. These guys are also not clock watchers, so expect a solid three sets of about 45 – 50 minutes each.

Coming back to music is clearly a great thrill for them and being on the receiving side will most certainly be an absolute treat!
